ATHENS, Ga. -- Nick Chubb said seeing Isaiah McKenzie making big plays early in the game was a great sign that Georgia was headed for a win.McKenzie scored on big plays the first two times he touched the ball, including a punt return that set a school record, and Georgia beat turnover-prone Louisiana-Lafayette 35-21 on Saturday.McKenzie scored on a 55-yard run on Georgias first play and added another touchdown on an 82-yard punt return midway through the first quarter. McKenzie, a junior, set a school record with his fifth career punt return for a touchdown. He set another mark with his sixth touchdown on all kick returns.I enjoyed it, said Chubb of McKenzie. Every time he plays well, we wind up getting the victory. Hes a big part of our offense. It was McKenzies first return for a touchdown this season. He said he knew he needed one more for the school record but was starting to think time was running out this season.Ive been thinking about that since I heard about being close to breaking it, McKenzie said.Chubb ran for 108 yards and a touchdown and caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Eason in the fourth quarter.Georgia (7-4) has won three straight and avoided a letdown after last weeks upset of then-No. 8 Auburn.Louisiana-Lafayette (4-6) was hurt by four turnovers. Anthony Jennings threw three interceptions, all in the first half. He ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns.Georgia led 35-7 after Chubbs scoring catch. The Ragin Cajuns closed the deficit on Jennings touchdown runs of 1 and 13 yards late in the game.Seeing his backups struggle late sapped some of the joy out of the win for Georgia coach Kirby Smart. It was frustrating to walk out with that feeling, Smart said. You feel like you should walk out of a game and feel good about what you did. The guys we put in the game just didnt play real well on either side of the ball.Jennings 64-yard pass to Al Riles set up his 9-yard scoring run late in the first half.Louisiana-Lafayette coach Mark Hudspeth said McKenzies early touchdowns were too much to overcome. We dug ourselves a hole early in the game, Hudspeth said. ... We just gave them a little too much too early.Easons 9-yard scoring pass to tight end Isaac Nauta gave the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.Georgia wore black jerseys for the first time since 2008.THE TAKEAWAYLouisiana-Lafayette: The Ragin Cajuns fell far short of the clean game they needed to beat Georgia. McGuires 124 yards rushing helped move the offense, but the turnovers were too much to overcome. The Ragin Cajuns must win their last two games to become bowl-eligible.Georgia: The Bulldogs, perhaps motivated by a flat performance in a narrow win over Nicholls early in the season, showed good focus. The defense delivered three fourth-down stops. Chubb has back-to-back 100-yard games for the first time this season.C FOR CAJUNSLouisiana-Lafayette defensive back Tracy Walker said his team couldnt afford to fall behind 21-0.Early in the game, we played a C-plus game and against a SEC opponent like Georgia, we have to play an A game, Walker said. We cant just come out here and play them like they are just like any other team.NEXT UP, SEC MARKSMcKenzie is third on the Southeastern Conference records for punt and overall kick returns. Javier Arenas of Arkansas returned seven punts for touchdowns from 2006-09, and Kentuckys Derek Abney had eight total returns for scores from 2000-03.UP NEXTLouisiana-Lafayette: The Ragin Cajuns return to Lafayette to play Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Conference game next Saturday.Georgia: The Bulldogs will close their regular season against state rival Georgia Tech next week in Athens. The Bulldogs have won six of the last seven in the series.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 Youth Nets Jerseys . PETERSBURG, Fla. OXFORD, Miss. -- Georgia first-year coach Kirby Smart gets a second crack at trying to slow down Mississippi quarterback Chad Kelly. He knows from experience it wont be easy.Hes a little bit like a rodeo bull rider, Smart said. This guy will do anything and hes good at it. Trust me, I know from experience. Hes good. The 12th-ranked Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) are the higher-ranked team in this matchup , but will still be about a touchdown underdog when they travel to face the 23rd-ranked Rebels (1-2, 0-1) on Saturday. Georgia has won 10 straight games in the series dating back to 1996.Smart was Alabamas defensive coordinator last season when Kelly torched the Tide for 341 yards passing, three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in a 43-37 victory for the Rebels. Now Smart is ready for round two. He said the goal is to keep Kelly off balance, and used a baseball metaphor to illustrate the Bulldogs plan.Youve got to be able to pitch, Smart said. Youve got to throw the fastball, youve got to throw a curveball. Youve got to be able to change it up and youve got to throw the slider. You cant do the same thing all the time.It is obvious Smart has a lot of respect for Kelly. The Ole Miss quarterback said the feeling is mutual when it comes to Georgias defense.Theyre big and athletic. They play really smart, Kelly said. I think thats a compliment to their head coach and their defensive coordinator. They do a really good job of staying in the right place. We have to make sure we play hard and keep the turnovers down.Kelly has thrown for 953 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, but his four interceptions have been costly. One was returned for a touchdown last week in the Rebels 48-43 loss to Alabama.I have to take it upon myself to keep putting it in my head to take care of the ball, Kelly said.---Some other things to watch when Ole Miss hosts Georgia on Saturday:ENGRAMS THE TARGET: Ole Miss senior tight end Evan Engram has emerged as Kellys favorite target this season.dddddddddddd Hes caught 20 passes for 302 yards this season. Both numbers are tops in the nation for a tight end. Said Kelly: Hes a heck of an athlete. Hes a playmaker, hes aggressive. He likes to hit people, too. Hes a blocker, so hes not just a receiving tight end.REBELS STRUGGLE TO KEEP LEADS: Ole Miss has already let two big leads get away during losses this season. The Rebels led Florida State 28-6 on Sept. 5 before eventually losing 45-34. Last weekend, Ole Miss had a 24-3 lead on No. 1 Alabama before the Tide rallied to win 48-43.GEORGIA CAN COME BACK: While Ole Miss has had trouble keeping leads, Georgia has proven adept at coming back after falling behind early in games. The Bulldogs trailed by 10 points to both North Carolina and Missouri before winning both games.CHUBBS RESURGENCE: Georgia running back Nick Chubb has had a great start to the season after missing a big chunk of 2015 with a serious knee injury. The 5-foot-10, 228-pound junior has run for 365 yards and three touchdowns through three games. Said Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze: Another great test for sure. They are going to present a great challenge to us in the run game and weve got to be sure that our eyes are disciplined.MCKENZIE EMERGES: Georgia receiver Isaiah McKenzie is having a breakout year, catching 18 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns in three games. He had 10 catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns in last weeks win against Missouri.----Follow David Brandt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/davidbrandtAP .
